Overview of how to write a portfolio

Required TextEarn College Credit for What You Know 4th edition (available from the Tech Bookstore www.wvutech.bkstore.com

Throughout the course, read the appropriate chapters based upon what part of the portfolio you are working.

Make a list of all you have done since high school.  I'd suggest doing this list in 5 year increments, and then grouping them by topic.  This is for you, not to be turned in.

Download the Regents BA data form, complete it, and submit via e-mail to kleftwich@wvutech.edu by the assigned deadline.

Week 2 Resume

  • Please obtain a good resume book (bookstore or library).for better examples.

 

Download and carefully read the documents on the left. 

If you have transcripts from other colleges or universities, please have those institutions send an official copy to the WVU Tech Office of Admissions and Records and an additional copy to me directly. This is not required for students who are not in the WVU Tech Regents BA program.  I will use the information in your file to construct a status report that indicates your current standing in the Regents BA program at WVU Tech with respect to the program requirements.

Submit a copy of your resume via e-mail to kleftwich@wvutech.edu byof the assigned deadline.

Week 3     Submit a revised draft of your Resume by midnight of the assigned deadline.  
Week 4 Education Narrative

Start working on your Education Narrative.

Start to collect certificates and other documentation that will prove to be useful as you assemble your portfolio. Additional documentation might include letters of appointment, job descriptions, performance evaluations, transcripts, diplomas, or military education records.

Week 5 Education narrative

 

  Download and carefully read the documents on the left.

Submit a copy of the education narrative the assigned deadline.   Submit the narratives via e-mail to kleftwich@wvutech.edu .  I will review your narratives and return them with comments.

Week 6 Work and life experience narrative

 

Download and carefully read the documents on the left.

Start writing your Work Narrative.

 

Week 7 Work and life experience narrative

Week 9 Documentation

 Credit petitions, rationale, referencing

 

 

 

Download and carefully read the documents on the left.  Start reviewing Tech's catalog (and other state-supported colleges or universities in WV) for courses that match your experience.  Make a list of those courses (copy/paste the course description into this list). 

 

 

Week 12 Credit Petitions

 

Submit a preliminary list of documentation and a list  of credit petitions with with a 2 - 3 sentence rationale via e-mail to kleftwich@wvutech.edu bythe assigned deadline.    This should contain the subject area, course number, course title, course description, originating college or university, and a brief outline of the reason why you think you deserve college-equivalent credit for this course.

I need to RECEIVE the the assigned deadline.  

Complete Portfolio includes:

neatly organized binder with labeled index tabs:

resume, education narrative, work/life narrative, credit petitions (minimum of three), and supporting documentation. 

Grade for the Portfolio (and the course) is based upon the completeness of the above components and neatly presented portfolio.

Please use the clear overlay binders where you may create your own cover and spine.  PLEASE be sure you put your name on the spine of your binder.    

Week 16 Last Class SUBMIT BINDER - deliver or ship (UPS).  Keep in mind it's the holidays and there may be delays.  I need to RECEIVE the designated assignment deadline.
    You are welcome to attend any Portfolio classes held on Thur evenings starting August 23, 2007 at the South Charleston Technology Park. 

Optional workshops may be periodically held for any interested students.  They will be held at the South Charleston Technology Park.  Check your MyTech email account for further updates.

 
       
Grading Policy:   

Your grade is based on your final portfolio (See "Complete Portfolio" under assignments to see what is required).  Promptness in turning in assignments may be used to "lift" your grade if the Portfolio grade is borderline; delays in turning in assignments will not be used to hurt your grade; but it will probably affect the quality of your Portfolio.    Please contact me with any questions about this.
