POSITION VACANCY Aug. 2010/Jan. 2011 

POSITION:  Assistant/Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering: a full-time, nine-month, tenure track position. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Doctorate degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related area is desired. A Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in mechanical engineering and good communication skills are required. Applicants with significant academic experience and accomplishments will be considered for the rank of an Associate Professor.                                                

Ability to teach and conduct research in mechanical engineering related areas with emphasis in the thermal sciences is required. The successful candidate must show potential for excellence in teaching and for developing an externally funded research program. Commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence, responsiveness to student needs, and positive problem resolution skills are essential. Professional Engineering (P.E.) registration is desirable. Industrial, teaching or research experience will be a plus. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The successful candidate will be expected to teach primarily basic and applied courses in thermal sciences and be capable of and interested in teaching courses in mechanical design and basic mechanics as well as associated laboratory courses. Development of an externally funded research program will also be expected. Other auxiliary duties relating to the operation of a mechanical engineering program such as advising students and performing ABET–related activities will be expected.  

WVU TECH:  WVU Tech,” a division of West Virginia University, is a four-year, public, residential institution located in Montgomery, West Virginia, 28 miles southeast of Charleston, the capital of West Virginia. The position is in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Leonard C. Nelson College of Engineering and Sciences. The College offers ten (10) four-year baccalaureate (BS) degree programs in: Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics. 

SALARY & RANK:  Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
